Agnes Moir (Moir) Fazakas

May 14, 1914 — October 8, 2011

Agnes Moir Fazakas, 97, Zanesville, Ohio, formerly from Cleveland, Ohio, died October 8, 2011. Agnes was born in Dundee Scotland on May 14, 1914, the second daughter of Alexander and Margaret Moir. In 1929, at the age of 14, Agnes immigrated to the United States with her family and resided in Millersburg, Ohio where her father worked as a stone mason. Although she completed her formal education in Scotland, she attended Millersburg High School where she graduated in 1933. Following her graduation, she trained at Coshocton Memorial Hospital for her RN degree, taking her state board testing in Columbus, Ohio. After her certification as an RN, she worked in various phases of nursing doing both industrial and hospital nursing. She was affiliated with Deaconess and Metro General Hospitals in Cleveland. While at Metro General, she worked with doctors and staff who were instrumental in the development of modern kidney dialysis and treatments for liver disease. She worked with the dedicated staff of Metabolic Medicine until her retirement in 1974. In 1945, Agnes married John Fazakas, who preceded her in death in 1983, and had one beloved son, Frank (Lynn) who survives. Agnes has three grandchildren, Angela (Steve) Nestleroad of Zanesville, John (Devin) Fazakas of Reynoldsburg and Frank (Nadja) Fazakas Jr. also of Reynoldsburg. She has two great grandchildren, Jason Alexander Nestleroad and Emma Rian Fazakas. Agnes' life adventure was extraordinary. From an immigrant new to this country, she worked hard and prospered in the hardest of times. After she retired she traveled with her husband and after his death, continued to travel, returning to her beloved Scottish homeland twice. She has traveled to Alaska and the Panama Canal, ports in the Caribbean, and across the United States. While retired she resided in South Pasadena, Florida for 20 years, returning to the Cleveland area in 1995 to be closer to her family. In 2009, she relocated to Zanesville, after health issues necessitated nursing care. Throughout her life and retirement, she was always very gracious and a strong Christian presence to those whose lives she came in touch. She used her skills as an RN to volunteer and gave of her time willingly for the good of those around her. The family will celebrate her life with a private memorial at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please celebrate her memory with a gift to the charity of your choice.
