Alfred Newman

Alfred Newman, 76, of Philo, went to be with his Lord & Savior at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Genesis Good Samaritan hospital. He was born April 17, 1931, in Philippi, West Virginia, a son of the late Alston G. and Alberta Kennedy Newman Sr. He was a foundry worker for 42 years at Burham Boiler Corporation, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Union Tabernacle Church, serving as a current board member and trustee. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Kennedy Newman, whom he married December 4, 1948, of the home; four daughters, Dianna (Charles) Baum and Esther (Kenneth) Avery, both of Zanesville, Sheila (Dennis) Hood of Philo and Sharon (Denny) Adams of Westerville; a son, Rev. Terry D. (Laura) Newman of Zanesville; six sisters, Hattie Gibson, Naomi Mayle and Delores (Russell) Butler, all of Philo, Macel (Samuel) Croston of Canton, Eunice Dalton of Grafton, West Virginia and Nancy (Clyde) Hovatter of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; seven brothers, Tom (Sharon) Newman, Goldie (Judy) Newman, Donald (Nancy) Newman and Alston Newman Jr., all of Zanesville, Gary (Melodie) Newman of Roseville, Bobby (Josephine) Newman of Canton and Harley Newman of Cuyahoga Falls; seventeen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Meredith Newman, Norman Newman and Fred Newman. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2007 and one hour prior to services at the Union Tabernacle Church, 2433 Hartford Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at noon, Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at the church with Rev. Terry D. Newman and Rev. Charles Baum officiating. Burial will follow at Duncan Falls Cemetery, Duncan Falls, Ohio.
