Andrew Batteiger, 93, of Zanesville, died at 1:03 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born March 7, 1914, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph and Plezza Bennett Batteiger. He retired after 30 years of service as a baker for Baker Bread Company and later he was an employee of the Lively Drywall Company. He was a member of Sonora United Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons, Donald (Frances) Batteiger of Zanesville, Robert (Betty) Batteiger of Indianapolis Ind. and Richard (Cheryl) Batteiger, of Zanesville; a daughter-in-law, Mary Batteiger of Zanesville; nine grandchildren, Cody Sue (John) Ross, Kenneth (Janet) Batteiger, Kimberly (Phil) Hockingberry, Wendy (Rusty) Ball, Alan (Angie) Batteiger, Steven Batteiger, Staci (Keith) Colborn, Rick Batteiger and Lisa (Donnie) Harris; sixteen great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Harper Batteiger, who died November 3, 1984; a son, Jerry Batteiger; three sisters, Goldie Church, Myrtle German and Dorothy Terrill; two brothers, Louis and Joseph Batteiger and two grandchildren, Toby and Tracy Batteiger. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
