Andrew T. Land, 23, of Richland, Michigan died Sunday, July 5, 2009 in Huntington, W. Va., of injuries sustained in a private airplane incident. He was returning to his Michigan home with his father, Michael, who was the pilot and also sustained fatal injuries. He was with other family members in Huntington for the July 4th weekend. "Drew," as he was known to friends and family, was born in Huntington, W.Va., on June 11, 1986. He was graduated from Gull Lake High School in Richland, Michigan and was a senior at Ohio University (Athens, Ohio) studying media management. He was intent on following the footsteps of his grandfather and uncle in the television industry. Drew is survived by his mother Nancy Beckett Land and his brother Zachary (19), a sophomore at Oberlin College in Ohio. Drew had a love for music and was an accomplished flugelhorn and trumpet player. He had been a member of his high school marching and jazz bands. He enjoyed golf but was most happy in the company of family and close friends. In addition to his mother and brother, Drew is survived by aunts and uncles: Bonnie Woodrum, Gail and Virgil Kelly, Barbara and Alan Meek and Peggy Becket (all of the Huntington W.Va., area), Eric and Cindy Land of Tampa, Florida and Myra and Jack Gibson of Watchung, New Jersey as well as 17 exceptional cousins. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, Zanesville, Ohio. Calling hours there are from 11a.m.-12:30p.m. Thursday followed by burial at Beth Abraham Jewish Cemetery in Zanesville. In addition, a memorial service is scheduled at 2pm on Sunday in Kalamazoo, Michigan at the Kalamazoo Biological Station.
