Bernard West

July 29, 1920 — October 26, 2004

Beloved husband and father, Bernard West, 84, of Zanesville departed this world for his heavenly home at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at Autumn Healthcare of Zanesville. He was born June 29, 1920 in Chandlersville a son of the late Walter R. & Flora Sorrell West. He worked 23 years at Mosaic Tile in the Art Department and he was the head of the Art Printing Department at American Match Co. He retired from Bloomer Candy Co. Bernard was a faithful member for over 50 years at the Northside Church of The Nazarene, serving in various capacities. He proudly served our country as a veteran in World War II in the Army Air Force, attaining the rank as Sergeant and served in the 9th Division in the Army of Occupation serving overseas for 19 months. Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Joyce M. Madden West, whom he married January 9, 1942 of the home, five daughters, Faith LaFollette of Zanesville, Joy Gammon of Columbus, Joan ( Tony ) Spiegel of Mt. Vernon, Jerrie ( David ) Strickling of Westerville and Lisa ( Dr. Jerry ) Trotti, M.D. of Dublin, two sons, Bernard Vincent ( Lenora ) West and Tim ( Becky ) West both of Zanesville, thirteen grandchildren, Tim Allen, Heather, Jessica, Kristen, Bryce, Brady, Bridget, Dustin, Benjamin, Sophia, Corey, Julia and Jared, four great grandchildren, Alexus, Blaine, Cayci and Payden, a brother, Leonard A. ( Ida ) West of Sparta, Missouri. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald West. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2004 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2004 at Northside Church of The Nazarene, 739 Francis Street, Zanesville with Rev. Vernon Stimpert and Dr. James Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park with full military honors being provided by the VFW George Selsam Post 1058.
