Bernice Marguerite Delong, of Nashport, went to be with her Lord at 12:30 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2007 at her residence. She was born in Beverly, Ohio, the daughter of the late Arthur G. and Stella K. Berg Delong. Miss Delong started teaching at the age of sixteen in Lowell, Ohio. She then moved to the Nashport area in 1951 and taught Latin and Physical Education at Jefferson high School and later retired from the Tri-Valley School system. Bernice was the owner and operator of the Meadow Springs Farm along with her parents. She was a longtime member of the Muskingum County Farm Bureau, the Richvale Grange, a member of the Wool Growers Association and the Muskingum County Sheep Association. Bernice was noted for raising Corriedale sheep. She was a member of the Cattlemen's Association, raising Horned Herefords and Jersey Cattle and a member of the Soil and Water Conservation District. Miss Delong attended the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Bernice loved her animals and also raised and loved her German Shepard dogs. She is survived by her niece, Carolyn D. Meakin of Virginia Beach, VA. and a great niece, Karen (Randy) Santos of Bradenton, FL. Also surviving are her loving and caring extended family, Linda and James Barker of Nashport and their children, Mandi and Mark. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2007 at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Kudart officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muskingum County Animal Shelter.
