Bette Jean (Johnson) Keith

Bette Jean Johnson Barr Keith, 86, of Zanesville, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, died at 3:57 P.M. on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Willow Haven Care Center. She was born September 12, 1927, in Zanesville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Harold and Bertha Switzer Johnson Sr. Bette and her husband attended Upper Arlington Lutheran Church. Bette was married to Donald Barr, who was her first husband, for thirty three years until his death in December of 1982. She later married Gordon E. Keith of Columbus on March 30, 1985. They lived in Columbus where she still resided until her illness 9 months ago. Bette was a caring person and active in several of the following organizations: The Women's Service Board at Grant and Riverside Methodist Hospitals, The Women's Board of Pilot Dogs, Capitol Area Humane Society, and American Federation for Aging Research-Ohio Affiliate. Surviving in addition to her husband Gordon E. Keith is a step son, Greg Keith; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Rogers and Carol Keith, all of Columbus; in Zanesville, Ohio, is her brother Harold (Joan) Johnson Jr.; a nephew Michael (Kathy) Foster; three nieces, Theresa (Charles) Frick, Penny (Jeff) Tanner, and Robin (Bill) Hatfield and their families; and several of Bette's favorite friends from Columbus, Marjorie Wiley, Gloria Shrer, Noke Orndorff, and Nancy McClure. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Anson Rodgers and Eugene Keith. Friends and family may call from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, June 16, 2014, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, with Rev. Mark Matzke of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. She will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville. A memorial service will be held in Columbus at a later date.
