Betty Loughman

Betty Loughman, 87, a long-time Zanesville resident, died Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Southland Nursing Home in Peachtree City, GA. She was born March 12, 1919 in Glenford, Ohio a daughter of the late Frank and Bessie Shelly. A graduate of Ohio State University with a Home Economic major, she remained an avid Buckeye fan all her life. Mrs. Loughman is survived by her four children, Judith Erven of Fayetteville, GA, Richard and his wife Lee Anne of Peachtree City, GA., Philip and his wife Cindy, of Loveland, Co, and Ruth Ann Popp and her husband, Tim of Helena, MT. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She had a lifelong interest in sewing, quilting, and cooking which she shared by teaching classes at the Zanesville YWCA where she was also active in the Junior Women's Club. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and later St. John's Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death in addition to her parents, her husband of 50 years, Robert H. Loughman, who died April 27, 1993; two sisters, Lucille Hamilton and Emagene Shelton, and a brother, Willard Shelly. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2007 at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Kudart officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
