Betty Ann McKinney, 86 Elizabeth "Betty Ann" Engle McKinney, 86 of Zanesville, Ohio Died July 30, 2010. A lifelong resident of Zanesville, Ohio, Betty Ann Engle was born the only child of J. Wesley and Alice Crawford Engle on June 16th, 1924. Betty Ann graduated from Zanesville Lash High School in 1942, and then joined her mother and father in working for the war effort at Curtis-Wright in Columbus before leaving to attend Miami University in Oxford, OH. She found her calling in writing with a summer job back in Zanesville, where she stayed on to work for The Zanesville Signal, The Sunday Signal-Times, and The Zanesville News as a reporter, columnist, and Society Editor. She married Carl Rollin McKinney on August 2, 1952, at which time she left reporting to begin a new chapter of her life. Betty Ann and Carl had three children, John, Anne and Jodi, and loved this time of home and family. Betty Ann was an active volunteer in community and school activities. The McKinney home was a short walk from Westview Elementary School, and Betty Ann and Carl enjoyed hosting many school gatherings, class picnics, and neighborhood block parties. From 1965 until 1984, Betty Ann and Carl really loved owning and operating Jan's Children's Shop, a popular children's clothing store. Upon retirement from retailing, she didn't slow down. Betty Ann actively pursued many interests including photography, traveling, gardening, reading, cooking, and participation in a variety of clubs and groups. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian church, and a former member of The Zanesville Country Club. Betty Ann took great pride in her three children, and four grandchildren, and chronicled their journeys and accomplishments trough photos and memoirs. She always continued writing, and friends and family looked forward to her books, newsletters and e-mails. Betty Ann was predeceased by her mother, Alice Engle in 1976 and her father, J. Wesley Engle in 1981, and in 2002 by her husband of 50 years, Carl R. McKinney. She is survived by her three children and four grandchildren: John Richard McKinney (Peggy Frank) of Granville, OH; Jodi Alice (Steve) Ransom and twin daughters Stephanie Ashton Ransom & Ellen Elizabeth Ransom of Hilliard, OH; and Anne Elizabeth McKinney, and her daughter Maralyn McKinney Beck and son, Matthew (Jennifer Wren-Beck) McKinney Beck of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
