Betty M. (Ashton) Riggle

April 26, 1932 — January 30, 2011

Betty M. Riggle, 78, of Hopewell, died unexpectedly at 7:52 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born April 26, 1932, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Roy and Doris Thomas Ashton. She graduated from Lash High School and attended Meredith Business College. She worked as a nurse's aide for 19 years for the Muskingum County Home and later retired from Sunnyview Nursing Home. She was an avid gardener and bird watcher. Betty was well read and well versed. Surviving are two daughters, Beth (Robert) Murray and Debra (Jim Ball) Riggle, both of Zanesville; two sons, Keith (Theresa) Riggle and Scott F. Riggle, both of Zanesville; 8 grandchildren, Shannon (Tim) Mesmer, Amber Myers, Amanda (Evan Sevcik) Myers, Nathan Noland, Audrey (Andrew Knopp) Murray, Andrew Riggle, Tyler Riggle and Tanner Riggle; 3 great grandchildren, Mattie, Riley and Adyson Mesmer of Delaware, OH; and a nephew, Clay Tharp of Avon Lake, OH. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Riggle, who died November 11, 2008; Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Charles Norris officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Animal Shelter Society, Inc., 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
