Billy W. Maxwell Sr., 89, of Philo, died at 7:40 A.M. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at his home. He was born August 23, 1924, in Crooksville, a son of the late Thomas and Sylvia Green Maxwell. He was a WWII United States Navy Veteran, member of American legion Post #246 of Duncan Falls, and had been a member of the Genesis Health & Fitness Center for several years. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Betty Mitchell Maxwell, whom he married January 16, 1970; two sons Tom Maxwell and Billy Maxwell Jr.; two daughters Carol (John) Bates and Debbie (Gary) Dingey; six grandchildren, Jeana Cogswell, Tom Maxwell, Jason (Jennifer) Dingey, Matt (Heather) Dingey, John Bates Jr., and Chat Bates; seven great grandchildren, Hannah, Anzleigh, Cy, Kaylee, Karsyn, Kayla, and Kyle; two great great grandchildren Adrienne and Dallas; and four nephews, Rich, Jim, Charlie, and David Maxwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Fauna Warne Maxwell; a son Douglas Foster; brothers Richard Maxwell and Donald Deitrich; two daughters-in-law Cindy Maxwell and Carol Maxwell; a half brother; and several half sisters. Friends and family may call from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 10, 2014, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 11, 2014, with Chaplain Tim Patton officiating. He will be laid to rest at Duncan Falls Cemetery, Duncan Falls where the U.S. Navy and VFW George Selsam Post #1058 will hold full military honors.
