Brandon Scott McCollister, 37, passed away unexpectedly at Riverside Hospital in Columbus following a brief illness. He was born December 29, 1986, in Columbus, a son to Troy and Paula (Bryant) McCollister.
He was a 2005 graduate of John Glenn High School and a 2009 Graduate of Ohio University.
Brandon worked in Freight Broker logistics by trade, but his real passion was his music. As a talented guitarist he masterfully played electric and acoustic guitar for the past 23 years. He was truly gifted and in his element on stage, playing open mic nights, or just sitting in the park playing his favorite songs.
In addition to music, Brandon was a former motocross racer (#117) and avid follower of professional motocross and supercross. Coming from a family of riders, the wonderful memories of racing and hanging out in the pits at county fair races, or our favorite tracks like Malvern and Honda Hills will live forever.
Surviving in addition to his parents are Brother Drew McCollister and his wife Lindsay McCollister (Keener); Sister Sydney McCollister; His Paternal Grandfather Alan McCollister, Grandmother Diane McCollister, and Uncle Brad McCollister; His Maternal Grandfather Paul Bryant, and Uncles Griffin Bryant and his wife Rachel Bryant (Bechtol) and Austin Bryant; Also on his Maternal side of the family he is survived by his Uncle Doug Share and Aunt Becky Share (Bryant) as well as Cousins Elizabeth Duling (Share) her husband Devon Duling, Katie Share, and Victoria Young (Share) and her husband Gage Young; And a friend that was especially meaningful Chad Glass.
Brandon deeply cared for how other people were doing and had a passion for helping people who were less fortunate. He regularly donated money and bought meals for individuals who he would meet and that were homeless in Columbus. This brought him joy and he would share the things he did to help others with his family.
In that spirit of helping others and in lieu of flowers, we would like to honor Brandon by asking you to consider a donation, if you are able, to the Columbus Coalition for the Homeless at www.columbushomeless.org.
In a heroic last act of kindness Brandon was also an organ donor. With his passing, this selfless act of giving was able to save the lives of three people.
We ask friends and family to join us in Celebrating the Life of Brandon McCollister on June 11th from 2-5 pm in the Oakmont Event Center located at the EagleSticks Golf Club 2655 Maysville Pike, Zanesville, Ohio. Arrangements were entrusted to the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, ZANESVILLE.
