Carl Eugene Barker

June 12, 1935 — March 31, 2014

Carl Eugene Barker, 78, of Avondale, died at 9:25 A.M. on Monday, March 31, 2014, at Adams Lane Care Center. He was born June 12, 1935, in Zanesville, a son of the late Francis Marion and Jennie Jean Chapman Barker. He had worked for Rink's Bargain City, Higgins Lumber, and Mock Woodworking. He was a member of the First Church of Nazarene, where he was known as the "Candy Man". He loved to work with wood and to fix things. An ideal day for Carl would consist of working in his garage, a.k.a. "Carl's Tinker Shop", and enjoying some ice cream. Carl always had a kind word for everyone, and could make a friend wherever he went. Surviving are his wife Martha L. Moore Barker, whom he married May 5, 1956; a daughter Susan (Randy) Miller of Frazeysburg; two sons, Terry E. (Tammy) Barker of Zanesville, and Scott A. Barker of Avondale; six grandchildren, Jennifer Tullius, Toni Tullius, John Tullius, Talya (Cory) Insley, Tara (Shaun) Semran, and Kyle Barker; five great grandchildren, Rylee and Ryan Birkhimer, Kaitlyn and Kamryn Insley, and Karsyn Semran; two brothers, Ralph (LaVerne) Barker of Midland, TX, and George (Chris) Barker of Nashport;a sister Alice (Jim) Nessline of Zanesville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis Barker and Francis Marion Jr. Barker; and two sisters, Katherine Jones and Thelma Wickham. Friends and family may call from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, and one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 3, 2014, with Pastor Steve Dupler and Pastor Mark Dupler officiating. He will be laid to rest at Williams Cemetery, Zanesville. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Adams Lane Care Center, who made the last two years of Carl's life comfortable. You are very much appreciated.
