Carl Edison Carder

Carl Edison Carder, 89, went to be with the Lord at 4:00 PM on January 19, 2014. He was born on March 12, 1924, in Kanawha Station, West Virginia, the son of Edison and Izola (Locker) Carder. Carl graduated from South Zanesville High School in 1942. He was married to Floreine Jenkins on February 5, 1944, and they were married for 52 years before her passing in 1996. Carl retired from Brockway Glass/Owens Illinois in 1983 after 30 years of service and he has been blessed with 30 years of retirement life, which included motor home traveling with his wife, fishing with family and friends, enjoyment of baseball and the Cincinnati Reds, and since 1963, he has shared the love of his Amateur Radio hobby with thousands of "hams" in over 200 countries around the world, also taking great pride in participating in emergency communication drills by offering assistance through Amateur Radio. He was a member of the Zanesville Amateur Radio Club and a Lifetime Member of the Lancaster & Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club, Amateur Extra Call Sign, WA8HFS. Carl was also a member of the American Radio Relay League and a charter member of 10-X International Net. He was a member of the South Zanesville United Methodist Church, and Carl supported the Red Cross, becoming a lifetime 50-pint donor. Surviving is his daughter, Teresa James of Zanesville; three sisters, Hilma Hoon of Hilliard, OH; Florence (Robert) Duemmel of Canton, OH; Mary Jane Barrick of Bellville, OH; one brother, Edward (Delores) Carder of New Concord, OH; four grandchildren, Kelly (James) Mott of Maineville, OH; Keely (Robert) Ledebur of Palm Desert, CA; Gretchen (Karl) Burlingame of Portland, OR; Rachael (Dan) Greenfield also of Portland, OR; and six great grandchildren. Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife, was his son, Bradford Carder; his daughter-in-law, Janet Carder; his son-in-law, Ronald James; a brother Robert Carder; and two infant daughters. Family and friends may call on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, OH, one hour before the 1:00 PM memorial service, officiated by Pastor Joy French. Carl will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at Zanesville Memorial Park. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that Memorial Contributions be made to Genesis Healthcare Foundation, Cardiac Services, 1135 Maple Avenue, Zanesville, OH 43701.
