Carol J. (Erwin) Kagenski

Carol J. Kagenski, 72, passed away on Wednesday, May 6th, at the Morrison House in Zanesville. She was born on March 14, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Latin and Dorothy Erwin. She graduated from Olentangy High School in 1966 in Lewis Center, Ohio and later worked at Worthington Foods in Worthington, Ohio where she met her husband, Gary Kagenski. In 1987, they moved to the Chattanooga, TN area where she worked in human resources at Sovex Natural Foods (McKee Baking). Carol and her husband moved to the Zanesville area in 1996 where she continued her career in human resources at Nestle Purina (formerly Benco Pet Foods). Carol retired from Nestle in 2011.

Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who enjoyed bowling, golf, writing (especially poems) and drawing.  She also enjoyed going on walks with her husband and their famous dog, Gracie. She bowled in a senior league at Sunrise Bowling Center and golfed in a senior women’s league at Green Valley Golf Course. She was a member of the Zanesville Adventist church and a member of Soroptimist of Zanesville where she served as President of the club from 2013-2014.

Carol is survived by her husband of more than 38 years, Gary Kagenski; a daughter, Jodee (Fiela) van Rooyen; a son, Matthew (Chris) Glen; a step-son, Joe (Liz) Kagenski; a step-daughter, Debbie (Craig) Anderson; a step-daughter, Lori (Chris) Bowman; seven grandchildren, Cullen, Kara, Jill, Nichole, Andrea, Eric and Zach; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce Smith.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, no calling hours or services will be held. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held sometime this summer. A Cremation has taken place under the direction of BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s name to Soroptimist of Zanesville, District IV, P.O. Box 853, Zanesville, OH 43701 to support local community projects.
