Carol E. McDevitt Shipley, 80, of Zanesville, died on May 10, 2018, in Macon GA, at the Coliseum Northside Hospital. She was born May 16, 1937, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Beverly and Eloise Summers McDevitt. She was a 1959 graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Carol was a school teacher at Zanesville High School and a substitute teacher at West Muskingum High School. Surviving are a son Scott (Jody) of Newark; daughters, Kimberly (Harry) Reed of Hopewell and Jill (Jeff) Thompson of Macon, GA; grandchildren, Jillian Shipley, Nicholas J. Shipley, Andrea Shipley, Joshua Thompson, and twins Rebecca and Sarah Jane Thompson; a step-granddaughter, Melissa A. Reed; a very special third daughter, Jane (John) Bruning and her family William Bruning, Catherine Bruning and Rebecca (Patrick) Frye; a brother, David K. (Gloria) McDevitt of North Lima; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James Laird Shipley whom she married October 9, 1959 and died January 29, 2014; and a brother, Miles McDevitt. Carol will be laid to rest at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.
