Carole J. Smith, 63, of New Concord, died at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the James Cancer Center, Columbus. She was born January 16, 1942 in Delanson, New York, the daughter of the late Waldo E. and Bessie Ogden Chesnut. Carole was a former school teacher in the West Muskingum School District and then became a registered nurse at the Genesis Health Care System. She was a Past President of the Cambridge Women's Aglow, and a former 4-H advisor. Her passion and dedication, and Christian faith was towards her family, farming and her animals. Surviving are her husband, Jeff Smith, whom she married August 22, 1959 of the home, a daughter, Jill A. Lane of New Concord, two sons, Jeffrey D. Smith of Columbus, Ohio and Thomas M.(Melany) Smith of Meadville, Pa., a sister, Roberta (Wayne) Thomas of Flintstone, GA., two brothers, Waldo E. (Vivian) Chesnut Jr. of Delanson, NY. And Robert (Roberta) Chesnut of Poultney VT., four grandchildren, Julie Ann Lane and Wesley Thomas Lane, Alexander Thomas Smith and Emily Renae Smith, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Arlene D.Reid and a brother, Alan G. Chesnut. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2006 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the New Hope Full Gospel Church with Pastor Joe Divincenzo officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
