Cecil E. Newton, 77, of Zanesville, died at 9:48 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born April 9, 1929, in South Zanesville, a son of the late Oscar Newton and Grace Albers. Cecil was a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, was a member of South Zanesville United Methodist Church and worked for the City of Zanesville as the Housing Code Administrator. He was a past member of Toastmasters and an avid bowler. Surviving are his loving wife, Betty Tilley Newton, whom he married August 19, 1950, of the home; three daughters, Sharon (Dr. Melvin) Miskovich of Zanesville, Barbara (Curt) Gutridge of Millersport and Teresa (Steve) Rau of Roseville; a son, Kenneth (Lyn) Newton of Norcross, Georgia; six grandchildren, Matthew Gutridge, Amber Norman, Mike Gutridge, Vesta Dalton, Jenifer Newton and Katy Tabor; a step granddaughter, Nikki Rau; three great grandchildren, Emily Newton, Allison Dingey and Alayah Dalton; two brothers, Ronald ( Jodi) Kirk of South Carolina and Howard Newton of Zanesville; three sisters, Phyllis Roll of Columbus, Ohio, Kay ( John ) Abbott of Zanesville and Bonnie ( Bill) Kenworthy of Cambridge. Friends may call from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, December 22, 2006 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 23, 2006 at the funeral home with Rev. Joy French officiating.. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Sonora, Ohio. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold full military rites at the grave.
