Cecilia 'Dolly' M. Hellems

Cecilia Dolly Hellems, 99, of Hilliard, formerly of Zanesville, died Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Hilliard Assisted Living and Memory Care, Hilliard. She was born June 9, 1918, in Manhattan NY, to the late Joseph and Domenica Nuccio Scopelliti. She moved from New York State to Zanesville where she became an active member of Central Presbyterian Church, the 49ers, and Four Seasons Garden Club. She will be remembered for her lasting love and devotion to her family and her Christian faith. Dolly was a loving, kind, thoughtful and gracious lady who welcomed all into her home. She was a homemaker and seamstress that enjoyed music, sketching, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, baking, and cooking. She was featured in the Times Recorder showcasing her talent for the art of making Easter bread, something she learned from her mother at the age of 10, and then continued the tradition with her children. Dolly is survived by her children, Margaret Hellems-May, Carlton (Sue) Hellems, Jr., Charmaine (Michael) Ryan, Camellia (Robert) Matters, Mary (Michael) Hayden, and John Hellems; grandchildren, Nicole (John) Sheaffer, Lindsay (Andy Adams) Matters, Felicia Hellems, Natalia Hellems, Valerie Hayden, Jessica Hayden, Heather Hickenbottom, and Ian (Jo) Hellems; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jamey, Noah, John Jr., Scarlett and Charmaine Sheaffer, Bella Hickenbottom, and Lucy Adams In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Carlton H. Hellems; a sister, Margaret Speranza; and two brothers, Anthony Scopel and John Scopelliti.
