Charles Frederick Brauning, 89, of Zanesville, died at 7:21 A.M. on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Emeritus at North Hills. He was born February 26, 1925, in Zanesville, a son of the late Arthur and Lulu Mae Sanders Brauning. He retired after 38 years of service in the Machine Shop at Armco Steel, and was a World War II United States Army Veteran. Charles was a member of the Christian Fellowship of Nashport, and volunteered for several years at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. Surviving are two sons, Dean (Pam) Brauning of Dresden and Gary Brauning of Zanesville; a daughter Susan (Joe) Shotts of Dresden; three grandchildren, Brad Keefe, Holly (Scott) Wolford, and Chad Brauning; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Still of Zanesville, Janet (E.J.) Goodman of Maumelle, AK, and Nancy (Charles) Coble of Brownsville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Wilma P. Brandom Brauning, who died February 6, 2014; two brothers, Carl and Bill Brauning; and a sister Kathryn Johnson. Friends and family may call from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, March 7, 2014, with Pastor Joe DiVincenzo and Mr. Bruce Gebhart officiating. A private family burial will be held at Williams Cemetery, Zanesville, with full military honors being presented by the United States Army in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post 1058.
