Charles Robert Carmichael Sr.

Charles R. "Charlie" Carmichael Sr., 85, of South Zanesville, died at 7:15 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2010 at his residence. He was born March 31, 1925, in Zanesville, a son of the late Frank and Edna Carmichael. He retired after 36 years of service as a commercial motor freight truck driver. He was a member of American Legion Post #29, Eagles Lodge #302 and was a life member of VFW George Selsam Post #1058. He was one of the area's best softball players being drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies but he entered the Navy instead. He was a United States Navy World War II Veteran, a Babe Ruth coach and manager for 17 years and an avid golfer. Surviving are a son, Bob Carmichael of Zanesville; a brother, Harry (Kay) Carmichael of White Cottage; a sister, Norma of Canton; and a special friend, Sue Searls of Zanesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Waxler Carmichael who died in 1993; a brother, Frank Carmichael; and a sister, Beverly Winland. Family and friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Following calling hours, a dignified cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Animal Shelter Society, Inc., 1430 Newark Rd., Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
