Charles R. Crawford

Charles R. " Charlie" Crawford, 86, of Zanesville, died at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Genesis Hospice- Morrison House after a long illness. He was born January 4, 1920, in Belmont Co., a son of the late Otis and Ora Brock Crawford. He was a 50 year member of Market Street Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities, he worked for Kresge's Co. in management and retired from Modern Glass and Paint, was a World War II Army Veteran with the rank of Sergeant and received the following decorations, Bronze Star (Meritorious service), European -African -Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with four Battle Participation Stars (Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Northern France, Rhineland) and one Bronze Arrowhead (North Africa), Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal and while serving in World War II, he met General George S. Patton several times and served on the staff of General Eisenhower. Charlie enjoyed playing golf, cards and watching sports. Surviving are his loving wife, Maralene Mason Crawford, of the home, whom he married November 24, 1945, a brother, O.W. "Bill" ( Margie) Crawford of Zanesville, a sister, Ilice (Bill) Dunn of Punta Gorda, Florida, a brother-in-law, Leo Gregg of Zanesville, two sisters-in-law, Betty Lasure of Zanesville and Ila Crawford of Canton, many nieces and nephews including Gary Buck of Ft. Myers, Fla., Karen Garrett of Columbus, Sally Tennyson and Dan (Becky) Gregg both of Zanesville and Betty Gregg of Columbus and many great nieces and great nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Iva Spencer and Ione Wages, a brother, James Crawford, a nephew, Timothy L. Gregg, and a sister-in-law, Vivian A. Gregg. Friends may call one hour prior to services which will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Market Street Baptist Church with Rev. D. Scott Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at Duncan Falls Cemetery, Duncan Falls.VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold full military rites at the grave. Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville entrusted with all arrangements. In Lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice- Morrison House, 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 or to Market Street Baptist Church, 140 North 6th Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
