Charles R. Kreis

Charles Robert "Bob" Kreis, 89, died at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Summerville, The Inn at North Hills. He was born September 18, 1917, in Adams Township, Muskingum County, a son of the late John William and Iona Belle Trottman Kreis. He was a 1935 graduate of Salem-Adams High School and the DeForest's School of Radio, Sound and Television, in Chicago. He was a retired employee of the McGraw Edison Company in Zanesville and was a former 4-H Club Leader. A life-long Lutheran, he was an active 60 year member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Zanesville. He was a Mason and a 50 year member of the Lodge of Amity in Zanesville. He served with the Signal Corp., Drew Field, Tampa, Florida during World War II. He married Dorothy Eleanor Bates Mallett on November 22, 1968; she preceded him in death on December 20, 2003. He is survived by the children of his first marriage, a son, R. Douglas Kreis of Zanesville; three daughters, Diane Dalton (Don Baker) of Zanesville, Debbie (Greg) Strohl of Somerset and Darla (Rich) Wieber of Thornville; three step-sons, David (Nancy) Mallett of Hebron, Mike (Jewell) Mallett of Guthrie, Oklahoma and Jeff (Mel) Mallett of Zanesville; ten grandchildren, Shannon Keck, Shari (Bob) Paisley, Andrea Lane (Kip Kimble), Ashley (Ted) Pickrell, Abbe (Aaron) Minister, Gina (Ben) Jessup, Lisa Barrows, Jennifer (Vic) Ward, James (Mandy) Noll and Stacey Morgan (Mike Baldwin); 2 step-grandchildren, Misty (Mark) Smith and Jodi (Bob Miller); 18 great grandchildren; Eaonne, AJ and Jessica Huffman, Shelbie Keck, Kaylee White, Zane Paisley, Blake and Slade Lane, Lauren Pickrell, Sophie Minister, Asa Jessup, Alyssa Ward, Eli, Luke and Maggie Mae Noll, Alex Vensil, Dalton Morgan and Addie Baldwin; 4 step-great grandchildren, Jacob, Lauren and Nathan Smith and Megan Miller; a sister, Marjorie (Glen) Bowden of Zanesville; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and one expected great grandson later this year, Baby Boy Pickrell. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, John Daniel "Danny" Kreis; a granddaughter, Stephanie Bowen; a step daughter, Joanne Mullinex; two sons-in-law, Joe Noll and Jim Hewitt; five brothers, William, Clement, Clarence, Roy and an infant brother and a sister, Pauline See. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Masonic Lodge services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the funeral home with The Rev. Mark A. Combs, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold full military rites at the gravesite. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Market and N 7th St., Zanesville or the Oesterlen Services for Youth, Inc., 1918 Mechanicsburg Road, Springfield, Ohio, 45503.
