Charles O. Reynolds Jr.

Charles O. Reynolds, Jr., 90, of Zanesville, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House after a year long battle with lymphoma. Charles was born January 12, 1921, in Rock Creek, Oh, Ashtabula County, a son of the late Charles O. and Della Heaney Reynolds, Sr. He was a graduate of South Zanesville High School Class of 1938 and attended Ohio University in Athens. Charles enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 15, 1942, applying for Cadet training and was a WWII pilot. He was honorably discharged on March 2, 1946. Prior to joining the U.S. Navy, he had been working with Western Electric Company in Cleveland, Ohio. After being discharged from the Navy, Charles went back to Western Electric where he was a First Line Manager spending most of his time in Ohio with a brief stay at Western Electric Headquarters in New York City. He retired in 1981 after 40 years of service. He then became affiliated with and was the President of the Zanesville Life Member Club of the Telephone Pioneers of America Ohio Valley Chapter #80 where he also served as the Fund Raiser Chairman and was a Member-at-Large. Mr. Reynolds was a former secretary of the ZHS Quarterback Club, treasurer of the ZHS Tip-Off Club and current member of the Muskingum Valley Old Timers, V.F.W. and Coburn United Methodist Church. Also, being a former local softball player, he was inducted into the 11th District Men's Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in 1978. Surviving are his three children, Dee Ann (Wayne) Clark, Douglas Alan (Patty) Reynolds and Kay Lyn (Greg) Jadwin; six grandchildren, Lesa Ann Clark and Lori Dee (Kurtis) Robinson, Jared Douglas (Nikki) Reynolds, David Alan Reynolds and twins, Ryan Alan (Maggie) Jadwin and Eric Douglas (Heather) Jadwin. Charles was also blessed with four great grandchildren, Hannah Dawn and Kloe Elayne Reynolds, Madison Paige Jadwin and Baylor Graham Robinson; a brother-in-law, Raymond (Rita) St. Clair of Cumberland; several nieces, nephews and numerous friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louanna Jane St. Clair Reynolds, whom he married July 2, 1948 and who died May 6, 1998; and two sisters, Myra Bernice Reynolds Patterson and Helen Eleanor Reynolds Patterson. Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2011 at the funeral home with Dr. Dennis Baker officiating. Charles will be laid to rest next to his wife, Louanna, at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. The United States Navy in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058 will hold full military rites at the gravesite.
