Charles Henry "Charlie" Whiteman, 84, of South Zanesville, passed away at 11:17 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family and his faithful bodyguard, Taz. He was born September 1, 1924, in Zanesville, a son of the late Charles F. and Hazel B. Snyder Whiteman. He retired after 26 years of service as a truck driver for Gulf Oil and later became a courier for Dutro Ford. He was a member of Fair Oaks Baptist Church, American Legion Post #29 and Zanes AM Vets. He was a lifetime member of VFW George Selsam Post #1058 and DAV. He was a World War II Army Veteran. Surviving are a daughter, Shelly (Jerry) Inman of Crooksville; a son, Charles Terry (Julie) Whiteman of Zanesville; 5 grandchildren, Abbey (Steve Dingus) Inman of Byesville, C.J. Charles Jarrod (Tiffany) Whiteman of Augusta, GA., Nick and Mark Inman of Crooksville and Josh (Abbee Smith) Whiteman of Zanesville; 3 great grandchildren, Amasia Kennedy and Sarah and Jacob Whiteman; and his extended family at Dutro Ford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Sara Wisecarver Whiteman, who died November 8, 1991; a twin brother, John F. Whiteman; and a great granddaughter, Abrianna Danielle Kennedy. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009 at the funeral home with Rev D. Scott Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. VFW George Selsam Post #1058 will hold full military rites at the grave site.
