Clifford A. Mitchell

Clifford A. Mitchell, 84, of Gratiot, died at 9:50 A.M. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at his home. He was born November 28, 1930, in Newark, a son of the late Ivan and Mary Loughman Mitchell. He was a graduate of Glenford High in 1948, a mold maker by trade, and retired from Kaiser Aluminum. He was a member of the Gratiot United Methodist Church, Methodist Men's Chorus, National Trail Volunteer Fire Department, and the Jackson Lodge #85 F&AM of Brownsville. Cliff was an avid horseman, loved trail riding, bowling, and golf. His greatest pride was in his family. Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, Phyllis A. Swinehart Mitchell, whom he married December 17, 1950; his legacy lives on in his children, Cathy (Bill) Harvey, Christy (Ron) Schooley, Randy (Cindy) Mitchell, Molly (Jon) Slate, Joe (Keli) Mitchell, and Mindy (Dusty) Brown; also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Brooke (Grant) Meyers, Lindsey (Chris) Colopy, Deana (Matt) Greene, Abbey (Tim) McIlvaine, Matt Hunt, Grant (Katie) Schooley, Ashley (Chris) Lyons, Kayela Slate, Josh Slate, Sydney (Guy) Long, Morgan Mitchell, Emilea Slate, Mitchell Slate, Erin Mitchell, Chase Brown, Jordan Mitchell, Jessi Brown, JD Brown, Dylan Mitchell, and Libby Brown; and his great grandchildren, Reagan and Norah Meyers, Hailey and Will Colopy, Maddy McIlvaine, and Ryleigh Slate. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws Bert and Gladys Swinehart; and a granddaughter Roni Schooley. Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 P.M. & 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, where Jackson Lodge #85 will hold Masonic Services 15 minutes prior to the funeral service which will take place at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 26, 2015, with Rev. Matthew Blau officiating, assisted by Mr. Jeff Iden. He will be laid to rest at Poplar Fork Cemetery, Gratiot. Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio: 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055; or to the Gratiot United Methodist Church: 345 South Street, Gratiot, Ohio 43740.
