Clyde Holbert Jr.

Clyde Holbert Jr., 84, of Zanesville died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Genesis Hospice- Morrison House. He was born October 17, 1922 in Zanesville a son of the late Clyde and Eleanor Norris Holbert. He retired as a letter carrier for the United State Post Office after 34 years of service. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharist Minister, assisted the Educational Director for the RCIA Classes. Clyde was the Director of Education and member of the Executive Board for the Ohio State Association of Letter Carriers for 24 years, he served on the board of Muskingum Area Technical College from 1974-1977. He also served on the City of Zanesville Zoning Board of Appeals for a number of years and was a World War II Veteran serving in the United States Coast Guard. Surviving are his son, Michael Ward Holbert of Zanesville; his step-mother, Mary Goins of Zanesville; a step-brother, Charles (Buddy) (Betty) Hodge of Zanesville; six special friends, Carole Donley of Zanesville, Fran Harris of Zanesville, Chris Rice of Crooksville, Ed Fee of Somerset, Fr. Emmanuel Bertrand, O.P., and Salvadore Pate of Steubenville; and many other friends and relatives. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Estis Holbert, who died October 29, 1992. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where Vigil services will be held at 3:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2007 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 144 North 5th Street, Zanesville with Fr. Emmanuel Bertrand, O.P. as celebrant. Burial will follow with full military honors being provided by the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Zanesville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church, 144 North 5th Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
