Constance "Connie" K. (Carter) Burns

Constance “Connie” K. (Carter) Burns, 89, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away on February 18th, 2024, at Altercare Zanesville after a life well lived.

Connie was born July 9, 1934, in Zanesville, Ohio, to Fred and Helen (Baughmann) Carter. She had one younger sister, Jan (Carter) Lucas of Zanesville, and a step-sister later in life, Elsie Ann (Hansel) Derry. She married her husband, William “Bill” Burns July 7th, 1955. Connie had two daughters, Molly and Julie, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Connie attended Bethesda School of Nursing in Zanesville and successfully graduated in 1955. She went on to work as the staff nurse at Mosaic Tile and Armco and then at Bethesda Hospital. She would later be Head Nurse in the latter part of her career. She enjoyed reading novels and her Bible, traveling with her husband Bill, and eating good food with her family. In her life she attended of Brighton Presbyterian Church, Brighton Free Methodist Church, Coburn United Methodist Church, and Central Trinity United Methodist Church. She was always ready to listen or have a chat with you.

Connie is survived by her sister, Jan and brother-in-law, Jim; a daughter Julie Cater; son-in-law David Smith; grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Ryan (Jamie) Dulin, Taylor Cater, Paige Cater (Dustin Holstein), Jamie Smith-Ellis (Kyle Ellis); and great grandchildren Chloe Holstein, Jack & Ava Dulin.

Connie is preceded in death by her parents Helen and Fred; husband, Bill; daughter, Molly Smith; step-sister Elsie; and a granddaughter Lindsay Cater.

Connie was a friend to all, and a fierce advocate for doing right by her loved ones. She once tackled a bully as a kid, and her family believes she was feisty to the end. Mamaw will be sorely missed, but her family knows she has moved on to a much better place.

Calling hours will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, from 12:00 PM until time of service at 2:00 PM at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, with service to be presided over by Pastor Jon Exman of Central Trinity United Methodist Church, Connie will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Bill at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.
