Daniel W. Allen, 83, of Zanesville, died at 1:57 p.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born June 5, 1928, in New Lexington, a son of the late William and Jeanette Rose Allen. He had worked as a meat cutter for 16 years for David Davies, as a meat cutter for 16 years for the Kroger Company and then retired in 1996 after 10 years of service for the New Bakery Company. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW George Selsam Post #1058, American Legion Post #29 and Eagles Lodge #302. He was a United States Navy World War II Veteran and Catholic by faith. Surviving are two sons, Daniel A. (Donna) Allen of Newark and Michael G. (Vicki) Allen of New Concord; a daughter, Connie I. Allen Hardcastle of Zanesville; two grandchildren, Tyler Hardcastle and Kelley Danielle Allen, both of Zanesville; a great grandson, Hayden Hardcastle; a brother, Lawrence Allen of Zanesville; a close family friend, Belvie Fraunfelter of Zanesville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma D. Allen, who died June 8, 1998. Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the funeral home with Pastor Aaron Phillips officiating. Daniel will be laid to rest next to his wife, Norma, at Mt. Olive Cemetery. The United States Navy in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058 will hold full military rites at the gravesite.
