David Gardner, 71, of Dresden, died at 4:03 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the Genesis Bethesda Hospital emergency room. He was born June 11, 1939, in Elkhart, Indiana, a son of the late Clyde David and Zola Hurtle Gardner. He started working at Essex Wire in Northern Michigan and was transferred to Zanesville, Ohio where he retired after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church, American Legion, Eagles Lodge, Dresden Steam and Gas Tractor Club, Freeland Valley Antique Power Club and was a former member of Sertoma. David was restoring a Farmall Tractor at this time. He enjoyed camping and had many friends at the Spring Valley Campground in Cambridge. Surviving are his wife of 15 years, Francie K. Hickman Gardner, whom he married September 2, 1995, of the home; a daughter, Gayle M. Gardner of Zanesville; three sons, Mark (Mary) Gardner of Port Orchard, Washington, Marty Gardner of Morristown, Indiana and Mike (Robin) Gardner of Zanesville; fourteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Paul) Emery of Mancelona, Michigan; several nieces and nephews; and two dogs, Precious and Sadie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Valda Marie Harter Gardner, who died October 5, 1993; and a son, Marvin Gardner. Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Matthew Blau officiating. Final resting place to be announced.
