David Richard Pflieger Sr., 80, of South Zanesville, died at 8:20 P.M. Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born March 20, 1925 in Zanesville, a son of the late L.D. and Julia Tipton Pflieger. He attended the old Locust Grove School, was in his senior year at the old Lash High School when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the war. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 28 years of service serving in World War II, Korea and the Vietnam war. During the Vietnam war, doing River Boat Patrol he was wounded and remained with the boat and was brought back to its base in Na Bey. For his heroic effort he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, and he has numerous ribbons. David served two terns on the South Zanesville Council and had worked at White's Chevrolet and Nelson McCoy Pottering after retiring from the Navy. Surviving are his loving wife, Cleo Katie Wheeler Pflieger, whom he marreid July 5, 1946, of the home, a son, David (Sue) Pflieger Jr. Of Zanesville and a daughter, Cynthia Pflieger Fox of Zanesville, two sisters, Emily Sebaugh of Zanesville and Julia Windon of Carroll and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, three brothers, Robert, Lawrence and William Pflieger. No calling hours will be observed. A caring cremation will take place under the direction of the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Williams Cemetery with VFW George Selsam Post holding full military rites at the grave.
