Dick L. Hursey, 78, of Gratiot, died at 7:33 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at his home. He was born April 19, 1926 at Gratiot a son of the late Dallas L. & Bernice Dick Hursey. He was the owner & operator of Hursey Adjusting Services. Mr. Hursey was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 3rd Army- 22nd Tank Battlion and later was assigned to "Special Forces". He traveled over Europe playing baseball and was discharged in 1946. He graduated from the School of Finance- Craford School of Insurance in 1970. He was a member of the Gratiot United Methodist Church, past Exhalted Ruler of the Zanesville Elks, member of the VFW George Selsam Post 1058, and member of the Gratiot American Legion. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Madalon J. Curby Hursey, whom he married August 10, 1950, three sons, Gehrig L. ( Dorothy ) Hursey and Robin Hawthorne ( Catherine Obarski ) Hursey all of Columbus and Steve ( Pauline ) Jennings of Coshocton, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a sister, Dorothy Jean ( James ) Smith of Grove City. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Savage a grandson and a great grandson. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2004 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2004 with Rev. Carol Tong officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Fork Cemetery, Gratiot. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold military rites at the grave.
