Dominic B. Brune, M.D.

Dominic B. (Mickey) Brune, M.D., 88, of Zanesville, died at 7:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at his home. He was born March 2, 1929, in Zanesville and was raised by his loving parents, Joseph Frances and Carmen Ferraro Brune. He grew up working at the family business, Brunes Restaurant. He finished his preliminary education at St. Thomas Catholic High School and continued his education at Ohio State University earning a B.S.C. in Bacteriology in 1952. He then joined the Army, being discharged as a Lieutenant in the chemical core. In 1956 he returned to Ohio State University as a medical student graduating in 1961 Alpha Omega Alpha. Following his internship at Mount Carmel Hospital in 1962, he returned to Zanesville to begin his practice, spanning over thirty three years in General Practice and to raise his family. Dr. Brune delivered over three thousand babies during this time and also partnered with local doctors to start a multi-physician office known as Northside Medical and Pharmacy on Maple Avenue. He was active on staff of Good Samaritan and Bethesda Hospitals and served as director of staff at Good Samaritan Hospital in 1973. He also served on the editorial staff of Post Graduate Medicine. He was proud to support the following organizations: Zanesville Devilette Boosters; Zanesville Quarterback Club, serving as president; the American Cancer Society Golf Committee; American Cancer Society State of Ohio Championship Golf Committee; served on the Salvation Army Board of Directors; Muskingum County Center for Seniors; served as the Zanesville High School Football physician; Zanesville City Schools doctor; and member of Zanesville Country Club. He was an avid golfer, loved to read, authored a novel, wrote many articles/letters to the editor, enjoyed flying, and participated in local theater productions with the Zane Trace Players. He was known as quite a jokester and served as the master of ceremonies for many local fundraisers. He is survived by his wife, Lee Ann (Bryan) Brune, of the home; four children, Lynne (Allan) Lupton, Lianne (Scott) McGlade, Laurie (Jeff) Walters, and Joe Brune; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nina C. Bowman and Jenny M. Denton; a brother-in-law, Floyd Denton; and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Brune. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 144 North Fifth Street, Zanesville, at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 21, 2017, with Father Peter Fegan officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded to him by the United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and the American Legion Post 29. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Zanesville.
