Donald F. Minick, 83, of Zanesville, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at his home. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; and never met a stranger. Born August 30, 1926, in Zanesville, he was the son of the late Noah and Ellen Mae (Lapp) Minick. Donald is survived by his devoted and loving wife of over 63 years, Lilyan (Frew) Minick; one daughter, Jill (Doug) Smith; one son-in-law, Mike (Barb) Paisley; one granddaughter, Jessica (Shane) Rockey; three grandsons, Michael (Jessica) Paisley, Aaron Smith and Andrew Smith; and one great- granddaughter, Stella Rockey In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jacala Paisley; a brother, Arthur Minick; and two sisters, Wanda Minick and Boni Collins. Donald worked on his family's dairy farm until it was sold to Greiner Dairy, at which time he began working for Greiner's. In 1948, he and his wife purchased and operated Minick's Market on Putnam Avenue for 25 years. He was elected and served as the Muskingum County Recorder from 1975 until he retired December 31, 1995. He was a member and past-President of the Ohio Recorders Association. Don was a 65-year member of Richvale Grange, as well as a member of the Muskingum County Pomona Grange. He belonged to St. John's Lutheran Church for over 50 years, where he spent many years as a member of the choir. He was also a 34-year member and past-President and Secretary of Zanesville Sertoma. He was proud to be the top salesman of Pancake Day tickets for many years, as well as the recipient of the Sertoman of the Year Award and the District Sertoman of the Year Award. Donald was an avid card player and always maintained a great sense of humor. His family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to his caregiver, Tina Tanner, and to the nurses of Genesis Hospice. Calling hours will be 2-4 & 6- 8 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2010 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Market and N 7th St., Zanesville with Rev. Mark A. Combs officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
