Donald J. Smith

Donald James Smith, 73, of Zanesville, died at 1:39 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Genesis Good Samaritan hospital. He was born November 7, 1935, in Zanesville, a son of the late Clarence and Grace Brown Smith. He was a retired truck driver for Putnam Transfer and a member of the Teamsters. Surviving are his wife of 13 years, Cheryl Smith of the home; a daughter, Terry (Dick) Meikle of Evansville, Indiana; a son, James D. (Leslie) Smith of Bloomfield, Indiana; a stepdaughter, Michelle (Darrell) Hunt of Zanesville; a stepson, T.J. (Melissa) Dunn of West Lafayette; two sisters-in-law, Vonda Moore and Helen (Shippie) Moore, both of Zanesville; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna M. (Sis) Smith, who died May 24, 1994; a sister, Darlene Raney and two brothers-in-law, James and Charles Moore. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2008 at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Hina officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
