Doris Lucille (Matchett) Lewis

November 15, 1919 — June 14, 2011

Doris Lucille Matchett Lewis, 91, of Zanesville, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Cedar Hill Care Center. She was born November 15, 1919, near Adamsville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Curtis and Effie Williams Matchett. Doris and John owned a farm near Zanesville where she lived all her married life. Doris was a member of Finley United Methodist Church, Timber Run Grange and was also active in Ladies Aid. She was well known for her cooking, especially her homemade rolls and angel food cake. Doris loved to watch her granddaughter, Jolinda play basketball and attended many high school and college games. Doris was also a huge fan of Ohio State Basketball. Surviving are a granddaughter, Jolinda (Britt) Miller of Cincinnati; a great-granddaughter, Jamison Miller of Cincinnati; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Lewis of Coshocton; two brothers, Karl Matchett of Jackson, OH and Donald (Arlene) Matchett of Adamsville; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Lewis of Zanesville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Lewis, who passed away April 10, 1996; a son, John Daniel Lewis, who passed away January 9, 2001; two sisters, Gertrude Swingle and Mary Welker; and four brothers, Russell, Everett, Robert and Jared Matchett. Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Bolin Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville with Rev. Charles Norris officiating. Doris will be laid to rest next to her husband John at Williams Cemetery.
