Doris Louise Sowers, 97, of Zanesville, passed away at 11:22 A.M. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Genesis Hospital following surgery the day before for a fractured hip. She was born January 20, 1927, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late William H. and Garnet (Lowry) Mohler. She was a homemaker all her life raising six children plus many in the neighborhood. She always knew where her children were because her home seemed to be the gathering place. Doris was a talented homemaker, everything from gardening, sewing and cooking which she passed down to all of her children. She was always on the go with six active children in sports and school activities. Doris and her late husband Robert “Bob” were married January 25, 1943. They were married for 75 ½ years which is a major accomplishment in itself before Bob’s death on July 4, 2018. After Bob’s death, she resided with several of her children until she finally moved into Brookdale Senior Assisted Living which was her current home until her death. She was a member of North Terrace Church of Christ, later transferring to East 40 Church of Christ as it was a shorter drive for her and Bob.
She is survived by her six children, three sons, Bob (Linda) Sowers Jr., Bill (Ann Alexander) Sowers and Ron (Cindy) Sowers and three daughters, Beverly Curry, Becky (Mike) Hamilton, and Debbie (Dave) Neal; many grandchildren, great grandchildren plus great great grandchildren, too numerous to name; three sisters, Sandy Church, Diane Kreis and Linda Robinson; and two brothers, Robert Mohler and Gary Mohler.
In addition to her parents and her husband Bob, she was preceded in death by two grandsons Craig Hamilton and Kevin Sowers; a son-in-law Fred Curry; a daughter-in-law Sara Sowers; great great granddaughter Brielle Archer; six brothers, John, William “Bill”, and George Mohler, Robert, Daniel and Earl Hoffer; and two sisters, Wilma Rock and Mary Krause.
Friends and family may call from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, with Mr. Sam Dunn officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Robert at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Zanesville.
