Dorothy Marie Basher, 79, of Zanesville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on Sunday night at 11:20 p.m., December 19, 2010 at the Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital emergency room. She was born April 6, 1931, in Charleston, WV, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Opal Marie Cunningham Carpenter. Dorothy grew up a child of the depression and World War II with a heritage of poor hard working coal miner family in West Virginia. She worked in various department stores and as an insurance agent. She married Johnny L. Basher in November 1954 and raised four ornery boys going wherever the Air Force sent them. She became a partner in three Service Master Franchises in Central Illinois until she retired in 1985. She was a member of the Meadow Farm United Methodist Church, where she served and loved her Lord and Church family. She was in the choir, served as a deaconess, and a Sunday school teacher. Surviving are three sons, John (Connie) Basher Sr., Stephen (Kris) Basher and Eric L. Basher; four grandchildren, Bryce (Amanda) Basher, Corey (Erin) Finck, Tyler Finck, and John Basher Jr.; one great granddaughter, Lyla Marie Finck; a brother, Donald Ray Carpenter; many nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Nancy Reese. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Luther Aaron Basher; a daughter, Lorene Marie Basher; a brother, John Carpenter; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Douglas Creech; and a niece, Chrystal Carpenter. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. She will be laid to rest at a graveside service at the Fairmont Cemetery in Amsterdam, Ohio at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 24, 2010 with Rev. Doris Flynn officiating.
