Dorothy Pauline Starling, 95, of 7370 Vickers Hill Drive, Nashport, died at 7:53 A.M. on Friday, May 31, 2013, at Autumn Healthcare. She was a retired school teacher who was born February 8, 1918, near Frazeysburg. Her parents were the late George B. Vickers and Daisey Devine Vickers. As a child, she grew up overlooking Wakatomika Creek and got her education by walking 2 miles daily to school for 12 years. After graduating from Frazeysburg High School in 1936, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at Muskingum College in 1940 and earned a Master of Arts degree from Ohio State University in 1946. She was a former teacher in the Frazeysburg, Columbus, and Newark Public Schools. She traveled extensively and loved dogs and nature. She was a Life Member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, the Muskingum County Genealogical Society, a Life Member of Nashport-Richvale Grange, as well as a member of the old Frazeysburg Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She married William K. Starling on June 17, 1955 at Liberty, Indiana, who survives, as well as several K-Nine friends. No calling hours will be observed. Burial will be in the Frazeysburg Cemetery. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Frazeysburg Cemetery, with Chaplain Tim Patton officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Shelter Society: 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701; or to Muskingum College: 163 Stormont Street, New Concord, Ohio 43762.
