Dr. Douglas R. Van Horn, 60, of Zanesville, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 12, 1951, in Zanesville, to the late Dr. Robert O. and Joy Spargrove Van Horn. After graduating from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio in 1991, Douglas practiced as a podiatrist in the Zanesville and Newark areas. Douglas played and sang in several Zanesville Bands including the Hangmen in the late 1960's and the DarkHorse in the 1970's. Douglas was an avid golfer, a devoted Buckeye and Browns fan. Surviving are his wife, Brenda K. Evans Van Horn, of the home, whom he married September 17, 1982; a daughter, Dawn René of Los Angeles, CA; a son, Brian Douglas Van Horn of Zanesville; three step-daughters, April C. Bailey, Jennifer L. Gallis and Barbara Elaine Presson, all of Zanesville; three brothers, Craig S. (Ursula C.) Van Horn of Granville, Keith J. (Patty) Van Horn and Kevin (Sandy) Van Horn, both of Zanesville; he was "Pappy" to eight grandchildren, Scott, Sydney, Lauren, Brandon, Ally, Jaden, Victoria and Savanah. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville where the memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2012 with Chaplain Tim Patton officiating.
