Edward G. Christman, Jr., died at 5:00 p.m. February 28, 2009. He passed peacefully at Genesis Good Samaritan hospital with his wife by his side. He was born February 7, 1923, in Jacksonville, FL. to Edna Adams Christman and Edward G. Christman, Sr. Mr. Christman was a life-long resident of the city of Zanesville, a graduate of Lash High School and attended Akron University. He was a 65 year member of Central Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class, was a member of various church boards and committees and a Sunday School teacher. He was also a former Jaycee and a life member of Zanesville Sertoma and served as Republican Chairman for the First Ward. Following wartime employment at Goodyear Aircraft in Akron, Ohio, he owned and operated Christman Roofing Company in Zanesville for 45 years, retiring in 1999. An avid reader, he enjoyed camping, photography, family travel, caring for the family homestead and attending the events in which his grandsons participated. He is survived by Bette, his wife of 57 years; a daughter, Catherine and Michael Dorman, and grandsons, Nicholas and Andrew of Duncan Falls, Ohio; a daughter, Deborah and Lex Vinsel of Olympia, WA; a son, Edward "Chris" Christman III and Mark Birchette of Brooklyn, NY.; a brother-in-law, Irv and Jean Bell of Zanesville; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; a sister, Bonnie; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Bell Carey. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Friends may also call from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Central Trinity United Methodist Church, 62 S Seventh St., Zanesville with the Rev. Skip Colvin officiating. A private burial for the family will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.
