Edward I Levison

Edward I. Levison, 76, of Zanesville, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Forest View Care Center. He was born July 18, 1934, in Zanesville, at Good Samaritan Hospital, the son of the late Edward I. and Mildred E. McIntire Levison. Ed graduated from Lash High School Class of 1952 where he played football and basketball. He attended The Ohio State University and Muskingum College where he lettered in many sports, including football, baseball and basketball. Following college, Ed served in the Air Force Reserves where he was stationed in St. Louis Missouri. After serving in the military, Ed returned to Zanesville, where he owned and operated the Army Navy Store on Main Street in Zanesville. His store was a Zanesville icon, with artifacts including World War II jeeps and many other vehicles which were displayed throughout the store. After retiring from his business in 2005, he pursued other interests, including boating at Buckeye Lake where he entertained friends by escorting them on his boat and he also took friends to the OSU games in his Scarlet and Gray motor home. His hobbies included collecting and restoring vehicles, including Corvettes, Jeeps and other rare automobiles and motorcycles. Surviving are two sisters, Fritzie (Ian) Levison Urquhart of Carlsbad, CA and Dorothy (Alan) Silberman of Steubenville, OH; and six nieces and nephews. Calling hours will begin at 2:00 p.m. until time of service at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville.
