Elizabeth “Betty” Jones Durst, 97, of Hilliard, OH, died peacefully on Monday September 21, 2020 after a lengthy decline at Carriage Court Assisted Living. She was born November 16, 1922, the daughter of Edward Joseph and Edna Leona (Metcalf) Jones.

Betty graduated from Lash High School in Zanesville, OH in 1940. On April 9, 1944 Betty married Richard Earl Durst, Sr., a WWII Veteran of the United States Army Air Corp. They had three children, Maryedna, Richard Earl Jr., and John Edward. In 1949, during their third pregnancy, Richard Sr. was killed while working for Ohio Power in West Virginia.

While raising her three children, Betty not only worked but also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Ohio University, graduating in 1961. She taught for over 30 years, the last 19 years in a first grade classroom, where she loved teaching children to read.

Her other loves were flowers and gardening, travel, and family.

Betty is survived by two children, four grandsons, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, her spouse, and her youngest son, John.
