Estel Mae Riggs

Estel Mae Riggs, 90, of Tendercare Nursing Home in Mt. Pleasant, MI, formerly of Zanesville, Elyria, and Macedonia, Ohio, went to be with her Lord on June 6, 2009. She was born July 13, 1918, in rural Gallia Co., OH, to Random Fox Faulkner and Sarah Jane Sanders Faulkner. She married Maynard E. Riggs on January 20, 1940. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1990. She is survived by her three children: Linda S. (Brian) Mayfield of Quincy, IL, Barbara G. (Rev. James) Turner of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and Darrell L. (Martha) Riggs of Zanesville, OH; 10 grandchildren: Melissa Mayfield (Nate) Ledbetter of Atlanta, GA, Joshua K. (Brooke) Mayfield of Vancouver, WA; B. Caleb Mayfield of California City, CA, Sarah E. Mayfield of Quincy, IL, Lynnette Turner (Steve) Walker of Paw Paw, MI, J. Layne (Karen) Turner, of Schnecksville, PA, Jeremy (Brenda) Riggs of Laramie, WY, Christopher (Diana) Riggs of Adamsville, OH, Andrew Riggs (Bethany) of Watertown, WI, and Michael Riggs of Zanesville, OH; and 10 great-grandchildren: Selah and Shiloh Ledbetter; Jordan, Sydney and Brooklyn Walker; Alex, Samantha, Shelby and Lauryn Turner; and Owen Riggs. Estel was an active member of Northfield Baptist Church in Macedonia, OH, and Abbe Road Baptist Church in Elyria, OH, for many years, and attended Maranatha Bible Church in Zanesville. She retired as head cook in Lee Eaton Elementary School in Macedonia, OH. She was a gifted seamstress, cook, baker and homemaker, and loved table games. She enjoyed travel, and after retiring, spent many winters in FL, with her husband. She passed down her love of reading and music to her children and grandchildren. Her greatest joys were her family and her Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Lennie Rossiter and Lottie Parker, and her husband of 50 years. Friends may call from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, followed by the funeral service at 6:00 p.m.at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, Ohio with her son-in-law, Rev. James H. Turner and her grandson, Christopher Riggs officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, OH.
