Esther L. Steffy

Esther L. Steffy, age 97 died on Friday, August 3, 2007 at Cedar Hills Care Center. She was the youngest of fourteen children and was born May 24, 1910 in Zanesville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Esther Jane Spangler Lasure, her husband of 39 years, George Arthur Steffy and thirteen brothers and sisters. Esther was a graduate of Zanesville Lash High School Class of 1928. She was the Manager of Diana Women's Apparel Store from its opening in 1956 until her retirement in 1972. She was past president of the Country Fair Shopping Center Association from 1968-1972. Esther held memberships in the Business and Professional Women's Association, Historical Society, The Zanesville Art Center, YWCA, and the Fellowship Club. She was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church. Esther enjoyed collecting antiques and her expertise in this area was invaluable to the Zanesville Historical Society of which she was a leader early on. She was a leader in all of the other Business and Professional Associations that she belonged to and had worked on many projects. She had a love of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and had a strong interest in what was going on in their lives. She is survived by a daughter, Joysan Steffy of Dublin, Ohio, two sons, George A. (Barbara Snyder) Steffy of Pittsburgh, PA and J. Roger (Marti) Steffy of Bexley, Ohio. Eight grandchildren, Christopher (Linda Zang) Steffy, Pittsburgh, Pa., Gregory (Lisa) Steffy, Charlotte, NC, Karen Steffy, Pittsburgh, Pa. , Cheryl (Billy) Smiddy, Mason, Ohio, Elizabeth (Rex) Zeigler, Columbus, Ohio James (Ruth Muellen) Bradley, Riverdale, NY, Shauna (Michael) Lehman, Bexley, Ohio, John Eric (Christina) Steffy, Bexley, Ohio. Fifteen great grandchildren, Adam Steffy, Laura Steffy, Blake Steffy, Tamara Steffy, Maya Bradley, Lia Bradley, Max Lehman, Tyler Lehman, Stefanie Lehman, Genevieve Steffy, Nadia Steffy, Alden Ross, Matthew Ross, Nicole Smiddy and Emily Smiddy. Other relatives include David (Martha) Lasure, Randy Lasure, Laurie (Tim) Anderson, Zanesville, and Findley (Skip) Chappelear, Heath, Ohio. Friends may call Monday, August 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 11:00 a.m.at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Sands of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.
