Eugene A. Shaw

Eugene A. "Gene" Shaw, 88, of Zanesville, died at 2:00 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the Muskingum County Home. He was born January 11, 1919, in Minot, North Dakota, a son of the late John and May Hall Shaw. He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired from GTE Sylvania and then worked for Federal Civil Service. Gene was a World War II and Korean Conflict Army Veteran, was a member of the VFW George Selsam Post 1058, Zanes and Janes Dance Club and an avid amateur Radio enthusiast (W8FXX). He was a Methodist by faith. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Lillian Founds Shaw of the home; two daughters, Helen of Maine and Barbara of Massachusetts; a son, John of Louisiana; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Shaw; his twin sister, Genevieve Holland and a grandson, Matthew Verseckes. Calling hours will be held from noon until time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2007 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville with the Rev. Tom England officiating. Burial will follow at Chandlersville Cemetery, Chandlersville, Ohio. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold full military rites at the cemetery.
