Euphemia I. Vellenga

Euphemia Isabel Vellenga, age 89, of Monroe, Ohio, died at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, Ohio. She was born August 16, 1915 in Mt. Oliver, PA, the daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Elizabeth Cowan Snowdon. She was a retired school teacher having taught in Ohio at the Fairhaven Elementary School in Preble County, the Sheridan Elementary at Zanesville, Smithfield Elementary in Jefferson County, and Rayland Elementary near Bridgeport. She was a member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church at Monroe, Ohio and also Putnam Presbyterian Church in Zanesville. She enjoyed and supported the Zanesville Art Institute. Surviving her daughter Grace Vestre of Pickerington, Ohio, two sons, James H. (Carole) Vellenga of Arlington, MA, Thomas J. Vellenga of Ashville, Ohio, and one brother, Albert Snowdon of Prairie, WI. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Charles A. Vellenga (1992). His church pastorate in Zanesville was from 1960-1967. Also preceding her in death, three brothers, David, Robert, and Arthur Snowdon. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2005 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2005 at the funeral home with Rev Barbara Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
