Forrest E. Howell, 85, of Zanesville, a lifelong resident of Southeastern Ohio, died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2005 at Willow Haven Care Center, Zanesville, after a 8 month illness. He was born September 19, 1920, a son of the late Ernest Edward and Mary E. Potts Howell. Forrest retired in 1981 after 32 years in education retiring as the Superintendent of Schools of Franklin Local and Rolling Hills School District. He was a former teacher and coach at Deter City Local Schools. He was the principle of the newly consolidated Meadowbrook High School, was the Executive Head of Cumberland Spencer Local Schools, member of the Retired Teachers Association, former member of Ohio Education Association (OEA) former member of Ohio Association of Secondary Schools, former member of Buckeye Association of School Administrators, former member of the Grange,, member of Duncan Falls-Philo Lions Club, 50 year member Masonic Lodge # 429, 50 year member of the Eastern Star , World War II Veteran serving in New Guinea and The South Pacific. Mr. Howell graduated from Hannibal High School, Marietta College and received a Masters Degree in Education from Ohio University and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ruth Mock Eppley Howell, whom he married August 21, 1999, two sons, R. Edward( Susan) Howell of Charlottsville, VA., and John D. ( Karen) Howell of Dublin, step-son, Mark A. (Sue) Eppley of Zanesville and step-daughter, Linda A. (Thomas) Collins of Thornville, six grandchildren, Robert E. Howell Jr., Ryan E. ( Jessica) D.) Howell and Jessica C. Howell, David E. Howell, Julie C. Howell, and Kelly L. Howell, five step-grandchildren, Jason M. ( Brandy) Eppley, Nicole S. Eppley, Tyler J. Eppley, Ryan C. Smith and Mary M. Collins, four great grandchildren, Dylan C. Howell, Madelyn M..Howell, Tanner W. Howell and Austin R. Howell, a step-great grandchild, Kaley A. Eppley. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Annabelle Lyons Howell, who died in November of 1989, a brother, Theodore C. Howell and a sister, Mary Isabelle Howell. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2005 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2005 with Rev. Jim Sands officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park. In Lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Duncan Falls-Philo Lions Club or to Grace United Methodist Church.
