Dr. Frances T. Ugis Feerick, 93, of Zanesville, died at 3:15 P.M. on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at The Oaks at Northpointe, Zanesville. She was born January 17, 1924, in Scranton, PA, a daughter of the late Paul and Nora Burnum Ugis. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and received her Bachelors and Masters Degree at Hunter College in New York City. She started her career as a Language Arts teacher at St. Mary Star of the Sea in Far Rockaway, NY, and later became educational consultant for the Diocesan Office of Brooklyn, NY. During that time, she received her Doctorate in Education. Fran was hired to work for CBS in New York as the National Director of Special Projects. She is survived by her daughter, Erin (Ty J.) Dierkes; a son, James P. Feerick III; ten grandchildren, Jesse Dierkes, Cody D. Dierkes, Natasha (Austin) Kinser, Joe D. Dierkes, John P. Feerick, Meaghan (Brian) Wehagen, Catherine Feerick, Thomas P. Feerick, Marie Feerick, and James P. Feerick IV ; three great-grandchildren, Amelia Kinser, Catherine and Madaleine Wehagen; special niece, Cathy (Mike) McQuone and their family; Kathleen (Eamonn) Elliott, Dr. Erin (Dr. Mark) Dunbar, Colleen McQuone, Trisha (Randy) Ditto, and Father Kevin McQuone; five great nieces and nephews, Katelyn, Ethan, Rian, Cassidy, and Tristan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Feerick, whom she married November 9, 1946 and who died July 26, 2006; two sons, Kevin Feerick (1977), and Dr. John P. Feerick (2015); a sister, Mary Clifford; and a brother Paul Henry Ugis, Jr. Friends and family may call from 4:00 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 with Rosary to be held at 6:45 P.M. at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 144 North Fifth Street, Zanesville, with her great-nephew, Father Kevin McQuone as Celebrant. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville. Nana, as she was fondly known as, believed in education. She believed a quality education was paramount for a good life.
