Frances Davidson Stebbins, 97, formerly of 1251 Edwards Lane, died in her apartment at Cedar Hill Apartments at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007. Mrs. Stebbins lived all her life in Zanesville. She was the daughter of J.F. Knowlton, a dentist, and Claudia Baldwin Knowlton and the widow of Clair C. Stebbins, editor of the Zanesville papers, Director of Public Relations at Muskingum College and Aviation Editor of the Columbus Dispatch, who died in 2005. A sister, Virginia and a brother, Thomas, preceded her in death. She was co-founder and charter member of Junior Assembly in 1934, a service organization for Bethesda Hospital, in which she actively participated until 2000, a period of 66 years. She served as a receptionist for Dr. William Knapp and Dr. A. E. McGinnis for over 20 years. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church. Surviving are a son, Charles of San Diego, California; a daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Mary Jane) Riddle of Kent, Ohio and four grandchildren, John Stebbins of Chicago, Illinois, David Stebbins of Coronado, California, Monique Alstrand of San Diego, California and Mark Stebbins of St. Louis, Missouri. A memorial service will be held at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2007 with the Rev. Ray Morrison officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church or Genesis Hospice & Palliative Care.
